AÑOS 80: NESCAFÉ

There's nothin' like a good smoke and a cuppa' coffee.
You know, some men got the craving for gold and silver.
Others need lotsa' land, with herds of cattle.
And then there's those that got the weakness for whiskey, and for women.
When you boil it all down, what does a man really need?...

...Just a smoke and a cup of coffee!

El comienzo

Los años ochenta fueron mis años de juventud

Decía el gran maestro Zen
Mick Jagger:

« De jóvenes éramos guapos, alegres, ilusionados y gilipollas
Ahora sólo somos gilipollas »

Lo suscribo.

Fue una gran década
La viví con intensidad
Con locura
Bajé a los infiernos
Viví en el Paraíso
Y no me arrepiento de nada
Fue una gran época...

*****************

When I was seventeen
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls
And soft summer nights
We'd hide from the lights
On the village green
When I was seventeen

When I was twenty-one
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls
Who lived up the stair
With all that perfumed hair
And it came undone
When I was twenty-one

When I was thirty-five
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
Of independent means
We'd ride in limousines
Their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five

But now the days are short
I'm in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine
From fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs
And it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

EL LOCO

****

Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

They were closer now Fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid Fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And I'm not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

Now we're old and grey Fernando
And since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
Do you still recall the frightful night we crossed the Rio Grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Yes, if I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando...

Y piratas, y soldados y tipos tenebrosos.

COLACADO

AQUELLAS TARDES DE DOMINGO....

When you're alone
And life is making you lonely
you can always go down town.
When you got worries,
All the noise and the hurry
seems to help,
I know down town.

Just listen to the music
Of the traffic in the city,
linger on the sidewalks
Where the neon signs are pretty.
How can you lose?
The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles,
Forget all your cares.
So go down town.
Things'll be great
When you're down town.
No finer place for sure-
Down town.
Everything's waiting for you
Down town.
Don't hang around
And let your problems surround you,
there are movie shows down town.
Maybe you know some little places to go
to where they never close down town.
Just listen to the rhythm
Of a gentle bossa nova.
You'll be dancing with 'em too
Before the night is over happy again.
The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles,
Forget all your cares.
So go down town.
Where all the lights are bright
Down town.
Waiting for you tonight
Down town.
You're gonna be alright now
Down town.
When you're alone
And life is making you lonely
you can always go down town.
When you got worries,
All the noise and the hurry
seems to help,
I know down town.
And you may find somebody kind-
To help and understand you,
someone who is just like you
And needs a gentle hand
To guide them along.
So maybe I'll see you.
There we can forget all our troubles,
Forget all our cares.
So go down town.
Things'll be great when you're
Down town.
Don't wait a minute more
Down town.
Everything's waiting for you
Down town.
